Arnie and Jean Kunde were in a quite serious auto accident on about September
26th near St. Joseph MN and have been in the St. Cloud Hospital until today.
Arnie has several broken ribs, front and back, and some neck discomfort.
Jean has two cracks in her pelvis, a gash on her right foot/ankle (lots of
stitches) and her shoulder that was broken several years ago is bruised and
frozen up. Arnie went home today with daughter Gail. Jean was
transferred to Camilla Rose nursing facility in Coon Rapids for therapy/rehab.
At present she's not able to walk much -- needs so much assistance getting
in/out of bed, etc. They were going to load her in a wheelchair and
transfer her via Medi-cab.
Their van is totalled - the accident seems to be Jean's error, as she turned
in front of someone she didn't see. Arnie and Jean were making
their last trip to the lake for the year. Just not sure how long
Jean will be needing therapy, but at this point there's no way she can go home
and be responsible for Arnie, too. A couple of neighbors will check on
Arnie and another fellow named Bob Anderson, just down the street (in sight
line, anyway!). Arnie really depends on Jean -- but thinks he can cook,
etc. Kids will have to take him to the grocery store, etc. unless
they're too busy, and then the neighbors are still an option.
Daughter Gail's brother in law, Bart Hensler, lives within 2 or 3 blocks, so
maybe he can help out if necessary.
Will keep you posted if I learn anything other than: doing as well as
can be expected. They might appreciate a card or a phone call -- but
give them a week or so, to get acclimated. They seem a little shook up
and confused about what happened -- whether they went under freeway or over
freeway to get back on -- missed their turn and were using the next exit to
get back to normal route. Thankfully, the accident wasn't any worse ---
and it certainly could have been!
Take care -- drive safely!
